SELECTION POINT PROCESS

Selection for entrance into the Practical Nursing program is based upon a point system in the following areas:

1. TABE test scores in Reading, Math, and Language

3 points each for scores 12.0 - 12.9 (maximum 9 points)
2 points each for scores 11.0 - 11.9 (maximum 6 points)
1 point each for scores 9.0 - 10.9 (maximum 3 points)
0 points for scores below 9.0

2. PSB test scores Verbal, Arithmetic, Non-Verbal (General Mental Ability), Spelling, Natural Science, Judgment in Practical Nursing Situations and Personal Adjustment

3 points each for scores of 75% - 99% (maximum 21 points)
2 points each for scores of 50% - 74% (maximum 14 points)
1 point each for scores of 25% - 49% (maximum 7 points)
0 points for scores 24% - 0%

3. 1 point for college transcript or certificate of training.

4. 1 point for CPR card expiring after August 2007.

5. 3 points for a completed health field course proven by certificate of training or certification card (examples are CNA/Home Health, EMT, CMA, Health Science Technology, Phlebotomy)

3 points for each college course in the health field with a maximum of 6 courses (examples are nutrition, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology). Additional points may be given at the discretion of the Director based upon Health related courses.

6. Work History verifications returned showing Health Related Employment Maximum 3 points.

3 points for 3 years or over continuous employment
2 points for 1 to 3 years continuous employment
1 point for less than 1 year continuous employment

Work History verifications returned showing Non-Health Related Employment Maximum 2 points.

2 points for 3 years or over continuous employment
1 point for 1 to 3 years continuous employment
0 points for less than 1 year

7. 2 points for volunteer work verifications Maximum. Documented by letter on Organization letterhead or Certificate of Appreciation from an organization in the health field (i.e. Hospice, Red Cross, JCMH
Auxiliary or Pink Ladies/Men, Public School Volunteer). Additional points may be given at the descretion of the Director based upon health related fields.

Notification of acceptance into the Practical Nursing program will be made by letter in December 2006.
